Distributed Audio - Residential

What Is Distributed Audio?

A distributed audio system allows you to listen to sound from a central source throughout the house, or listen to different audio sources in different rooms throughout the house. This type of installation typically consists of installing speakers on the walls, ceiling, or underneath flooring; then routing signals through an amplifier to control volume levels so that each room has specific requirements met according to its desired source.

Multi Channel Vs Multi Zone Audio

A multi-channel amplifier will reproduce the same audio source distributed at the same volume over multiple speakers. For example, your living room surround sound system. When you turn up the volume knob, the volume is increased on each speaker equally.

A multi-zone system will give you independent control over groups of speakers in different locations. For example, you may want to have the volume of music in your living room be set at a different level than in your backyard. This would require a multi-zone audio system.

Controlling Your Distributed Audio System

We program your system so it's easy to control what audio sources you want to listen to, in any room. Many people find it easiest to control through the smartphone app. We also program and install wall switches (pictured below) to make changing audio sources a breeze. No more fumbling with multiple remotes and trying to match the right inputs and outputs!

How Many Speakers Do I Need?

Ultimately this will depend on factors like your ceiling height, whether you want audio to be the primary focus (like a residential home theatre) or if it's background music, and your room layout and decor. This is also determined by the number of rooms that you want to have sound in.
